The venue, Arena Coliseo, is more commonly known for hosting lucha libre wrestling, and the fight will be broadcast on ESPN Knock Out, a network that isn't exactly a household name. And this is the part most people miss: don't let the seemingly low-key circumstances fool you. Torrez is closer to the heavyweight division's main stage than you might think.
Consider this: Guido Vianello, whom Torrez defeated in April, recently scored a TKO victory over Alexis Barriere and then promptly called out none other than Anthony Joshua. "You know, it's really weird because I still kind of idolize those guys," Torrez confessed. "Like, whoa, that’s Anthony Joshua, that’s crazy. Or [Oleksandr] Usyk. These guys are people I looked at growing up. And it’s so crazy to me that right now I’m ranked No. 4 in the world. Like, it really is. It’s kind of baffling to me, and it’s such an honor.”
Despite the lingering sense of awe – he jokingly admits to "fanboying a little bit" – Torrez firmly believes he's ready to compete with the heavyweight elite. His rankings reflect this confidence: he's currently ranked No. 4 by the IBF and No. 11 by both the WBC and WBO. "I am super-confident in my abilities, and I know I’m here for a reason. I’m an Olympic medalist," Torrez stated, referencing his silver medal win at the 2020 Tokyo Games. "I’ve kind of shown my stripes a little bit, and I’m ready to show the world that I’m ready to be a name – a boxing name, a household name – and I think within the next year or so, I’ll be able to do so.”
It's clear Torrez has been carefully strategizing his next move, and he has a specific opponent in mind: Moses Itauma. "One of the guys I’ve been kind of trying to throw my hat in the ring for is Moses Ituama," he revealed. "I think that he has been showing and proving himself in and out of the ring.”

Itauma, fresh off a dominant first-round victory over Dillian Whyte in August, is highly ranked by several sanctioning bodies and has his sights set on the division's established stars. "I'm a smaller lefty that throws a lot and is in shape and conditioned," Torrez explained, outlining his potential advantages. "I think that that'd be a great fight. … Two English-speaking guys, we could cross the pond and make some pretty big headlines in any country we go to. That would be something I'm really looking forward to.”
